We have the privilege of meeting some amazing people through our work with Bread for the Journey Omaha. We were fortunate to meet Jennifer and Victor Winter the week before Christmas and learn about the great work they are doing to train youth in computer coding. Over coffee at Starbucks, we learned that Victor is a professor of Computer Science at UNO and loves making the language of computers simple and easy for his students. Using Bricklayer (a tool that lets programmers build a LEGO artifact in virtual space), Victor began to realize that kids could learn to code and have fun doing it! Both Victor and Jennifer are passionate about exposing youth to technology at a young age so they get excited and develop technology skills that will prepare them for high school, college, and maybe even a lifetime career in computer coding! They now sponsor the Winter Coding Club which trains youth in computer coding, and needed help to grow the club with more students by purchasing more computers and some additional equipment. Because of the generosity of our donors, we were able to provide them with our highest grant award of $3,000. Congratulations Victor and Jennifer – we wish you all the best!
